Teaching artist Melissa Rice comes to DHS theatre this fall. She holds a B.A. in Theatre Arts from Baylor University and is a Master’s candidate in Education from University of West Alabama. She has over 30 years experience teaching in private schools and studios in California, Texas and Alabama. She has owned an after-school performing arts academy, a character entertainment business, and has directed award-winning productions honored at the Junior Theatre Festival. She has recently directed for Decatur’s own Bank Street Players (2019’s Guys and Dolls and 2022’s The Sound of Music) and is the founding director of Unexpected Company Theatre which creates sensory-inclusive shows for individuals with special needs. She looks forward to working with the young student artists and building on the well-established drama program at Decatur High.
