Grilling with the Officers

On  November 17, 2021, smoke billowed up from Decatur High School. Members of the Decatur Police Department grilled food with Decatur High School students outside of the basketball arena to talk about life lessons and the steps it takes to be a part of the police force. Generously, the grills were donated by Lowes, supplies came from Trinity Baptist Church, and meat from Hometown Grocery. Officers Schutt, Johns, Macklin, Suthlin and Sargent Jones teamed up with DHS teachers Mrs. Basard, Mrs. Montgomery and Coach Smith for a unique teaching experience.  The brain child of the event, DHS Resource Officer Schutt, came up with this unique way of connecting with DHS students by discussing what is going on in the community and certain life skills. All of this took place while incorporating a cooking contest on the best chicken marinade. Many students complimented the event, and they hope that it continues in the future.
