On Sunday, December 5th, Decatur High School held their annual football banquet. This year the Decatur High School Red Raiders put in the work and made it to the state playoffs for the first time in years. "It might be strange to say, but this may be one of my top five favorite groups I have coached in my 42 years," says Coach Adcock.  "We have seen these young men go through a pandemic that affected our youth in a way that has yet to be measured.  Your coaching staff followed all the directives and then tried to make them realize that we had to snap back into a world that had forgotten how to work and fight for what they needed to earn."

The banquet celebrates, not only the on-field achievements, but also the classroom achievements as well and noted the 2021-2022 scholar athletes who have put in so much time preparing for the season while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. These scholar athletes were Ward Bouchillon, Banks Dement, Jacob McRae, Owan Poovey, and Jack Sturges.  The permanent captains for the 2021-2022 years (voted by their teammates) were also named: Hunter Claborn, Banks Dement, Jacob McRae, and Keandre' Williams.

The banquet also recognized the incredible dedication to the DHS cheerleaders and mascots who work so hard throughout the year, encouraging our fans, our coaches, and our players. Behind all of these athletes, Coach Adcock drew special attention to the DHS trainers who kept our athletes performing at their best.

Congratulations to entire the Red Raider football and cheer programs who showed perseverance and pride, as they marched through this season. Go Red Raiders!
